The consequences of further destruction are flooding, disease and pollution, and climate change. Mass starvation and species of animals lost. About 3 billion people depend on ground water from wetlands for drinking. Wetlands are extremely important for humans. They are a natural diverse ecosystem providing natural resources like food, timber and medicine. Agriculture rely on wetlands freshwater for irrigation. Wetlands are mother natures way of purifying water. They also play an important role in climate change by storing carbon.
